Jeff's Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Site

Welcome!

On May 5-7, 2000, I walked 60 miles in 90+-degree weather from Frederick, Maryland, to Washington, DC. I drank about 10 gallons of water, ate off of Styrofoam plates, used portable showers, and slept in a tent. When it was all over, I had a few blisters, a sore back, sore legs, and aching feet! What did I do, you ask? I challenged both my body and soul in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day, a walk to benefit breast cancer research.

The walk was fun, heartwarming, and emotional. I made new friends and saw unique communities along the way. It was definitely tough! But I know that what I did will benefit millions in more ways than just providing money. Just think of those who are suffering from breast cancer-just knowing that there are thousands of supporters all working for a cure must give them great hope.

In May of 2002, I will do it all again! Crazy? No! Just dedicated to helping researchers find a cure for breast cancer!

Breast cancer has played a major role in my life. When I was 12 years old, my mother had to have surgery to fight her own breast cancer battle. At the time, I didn’t really think much of it. But, as I grew older and wiser, I realized that I could have lost my own mother. How would I have turned out if my mother had not been there to help me? What if she weren’t there to see me graduate high school or college? Would I have even been able to make it that far without her? I’m glad that I didn’t have to find out the hard way.

So many others don’t have the opportunity my mother had to win her fight with breast cancer. Nearly 180,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Of those women, 40,000 will not live to see their children grow up. So many children lose their mothers way too soon. So many husbands, parents, and friends lose the ones they love.

How do we fight this disease? By providing education, early detection, and early treatment, we can reduce the number of fatalities from the disease. By providing funding for Breast Cancer research, we will be making one more step towards a cure! But, in order for there to be a cure, we must all be willing to fight the disease. Together, we can reduce the number of deaths and help find a cure.

To make it happen, I need emotional, physical, and fundraising support to help me reach my goal. I am going to walk 60 miles. I am going to raise $3,000 for breast cancer research. I am going to reach my goal! I hope that you can find it in your heart to help me in my journey. By supporting me in reaching my goal, you will be supporting those who are touched by breast cancer every day-those who have lost family members to this terrible disease, those who have won the battle, like my mother, and those who are still fighting it.

It would be an honor if you would support me with a pledge.

Please give generously for this great cause, knowing that you will help change the life of those touched by breast cancer-maybe even someone you know.

I greatly appreciate your time and support!
